An Ergonomic Twist On Hand Waxing

Car Care by Rik Paul

For the budget minded or others hesitant to move to power buffing devices, Malm Chemical has just introduced a new aid for hand waxing. Called the Kolinsky Speed Waxer, it includes a joystick-shaped, lightweight polycarbonate handle with a four-inch-diameter foam pad fitted on the bottom. In contrast to the conventional hand polishing position, with fingertips pressed downward, the Speed Waxer is claimed to provide a more comfortable hand position, which results in less muscle fatigue and a less energy sapping procedure. The pad also evenly distributes hand pressure over 12 square inches, providing broader stroke than when rubbing with only the fingertips. The Speed Waxer is recommended only for applying wax, not buffing. We found the Speed Waxer to be both easier and faster than normal hand polishing, especially on horizontal surfaces such as the hood, trunk, and roof. On vertical surfaces, it’s easier to grip the base directly and work it similarly to a normal polishing pad. The tool will be most appreciated when having to apply firmer pressure, such as while using rubbing compounds or a more aggressive polisher.
